I Love You, James

Today I had a supervised contact with my beloved son, James. We were supervised by Nana.

The first thing that I did with my son this afternoon was to give him my Stonewall information, explain it and 'Come Out' in a clear but loving way to him, as a single gay parent. When I explained that he had spent his first six years of life living in Gay and Lesbian community housing, this made sense to my son. He remembered his old home and he took the reminder well and in the end offered and insisted on buying me a McDonald's lunch.

My son took this photo of my mouth while I was talking about meeting Sir Winston Churchill's grandson in person earlier this week. My son also selected the hat that he is wearing in the photo for his self, while we were shopping in GAP.

I love my son very much, and parting with my him was especially hard for me this evening.

Different Families Same Love

Oh No! Not The Gay Thing!, may be words that children my son's age of 12, may come out with to their parents or carers.

I am, however, thinking that now is the right time to tackle this issue, as last year my son was taught sex education and last week during his relationship education, he was taught how to put a condom on a banana at school.

Science Museum

Today I had a wonderful three hours of supervised contact with my beloved son James.

Today we were supervised by a man called Erasmus.

First we went to McDonald's in Brixton and my son chose to eat a Chicken nugget 'Happy Meal'.

When we went to the Science Museum, we went for a ride on the Red Arrows flight simulator. Then we went to look at the airplanes.

No Supervisor for Today's Contact.

Today [Saturday 8th October 2011] my son James, and I were disappointed because we waited for an hour but there was no show from the supervisor of today's contact session.

Unfortunately we were unable to go to the Imperial War Museum.

I spent the time watching my son uploading flight simulator films from youtube on my Blackberry and experimenting with accents + facial expressions.

I was especially disappointed today because it is five days before my fiftieth birthday and I was hoping to spend a bit of quality time with my beloved twelve year old son.

In five days it will also be a year to the day since my mother last spoke to me, while she was alive.

Brixton.

Today, I spent a wonderful supervised contact session with my beloved son James, in Brixton. We were supervised by Tiana.

First we went to Games Master on Brixton Road, then swimming at the Brixton Recreation Centre. We stopped off for a McDonald's, where my son conquered a Big Mac meal - his fifth, so far! And before heading homeward, we spent time in Windrush listening to the music...
